Who is Moodscapes?

Moodscapes is owned and organized by Judith Lipson-Rubin. Judi is involved in every aspect of a job. She gets to know the clients by working with them closely through the design process. She designs the landscape, chooses the plant material, hardscape material and the natural fertilizers. She also coordinates the installation of the landscape.

Andrew Jeromski and Jesse Golden, who are experienced with many types of landscape installations, organize the experienced planters and laborers throughout the garden installation in order to create an environment individually tailored to the client’s needs. Also among the Moodscapes team is a cadre of highly qualified and experienced masons and contractors. All are constantly in open communication with each other and the client to assure efficiency and precision during the design and installation process.

Our Philosophy & Approach

At Moodscapes we address the needs, moods, and desires of our clients by centering on their goals throughout the design process – from the initial consultation through the design’s preparation, approval, and installation.

When working with clients, we not only use our communication and design skills, but also our understanding and application of horticultural and site requirements as well as construction procedures. This approach to the design process enables us to integrate the client’s unique needs with the natural characteristics of the site.
As one of only 15 professionals nation-wide who have been certified as Healthcare Garden Designers, Judith has the knowledge, skills, and expertise to create and evaluate meditative, healing, and therapeutic gardens for residents, health-care settings, and community-oriented gardens.

Moodscapes approaches landscaping with the belief that all gardens should be meaningful and restorative.

Judith is also involved with COG, a Community Outreach Group that assists communities with the design and organization of public landscapes. She believes that part of her mission is to assist with the greening of the country. Her involvement with COG has given Moodscapes the opportunity to work in public housing and with community projects. As a member of the Board for NELDHA , the New England Landscape Design and History Association, Judith is always aware of the latest trends in the field of landscape design and construction. She, along with the entire Moodscapes team, applies this knowledge in all aspects of our daily work.

Moodscapes cares about the ecology of the land and we work to create sustainable landscapes that need minimal maintenance.

It is our goal to improve the earth as we create beautiful gardens for our clients. As we look at each site we try to determine the most suitable plants for that particular site in order to make the gardens more self-sustaining.
  • We design for the habitats within the site choosing a rich array of plants which most represent nature and which create bio-diversity, thus promoting the entire ecosystem.

  • We limit the need for water by planting drought tolerant plants.

  • We choose plants that are pest free when possible to decrease the use of pesticides.

  • We encourage the use of organic fertilizers, compost, and leaf mulch to enrich the soil.

  • We also try to save energy for the client by planting to limit the effects of extreme weather such as the north wind or the hot summer.

Moodscapes concentrates on large and small projects. Our approach results in practical and aesthetically pleasing landscapes that are reflective of the client, long-living, ecologically sound, have seasonal interest, and will need limited maintenance. This creates more time for our clients to enjoy many years of pleasure from a landscape designed and installed just for them!
