Moodscapes attended the annual New England Grows Convention, the largest green industry conference in the Northeast. As always the convention brings together designers, specialists, practitioners, and contractors from all areas of the landscape industry ranging from hardscape and landscape supplies to lawn products, nurseries and professional organizations.
Of the many informative speakers our two favorites this year were both on plant care. On Thursday we attended the lecture on planting methods and bare root transplanting given by Matthew R. Foti, the owner of Landscape & Tree Service Inc located in Lexington, Massachusetts. He provided great insight on bare root transporting and introduced new key concepts for planting techniques.
Robert Childs, a well-known advocate and professor of Entomology at the University of Massachusetts- Amherst, also provided us with an informative lecture. Professor Childs informed us about the newest insect problems including the often forgotten about pest, an "Asian long horn beetle" (ALB) . He mentioned ways that insects and pests travel and invade various landscapes, but more importantly how to recognize their habitats, the types of destruction and the latest management and extermination methods.
Overall the convention was extremely helpful for Moodscapes in order to stay abreast with the latest landscape design trends in plants, plant materials, organics, products, and equipment. All of us at Moodscapes are truly thankful for all the work that goes into planning N.E. Grows and appreciate all the convention has to offer. Thank you to everyone who was there!
