FAQs About How to Install a Paver Patio

If you're looking to install a paver patio in your backyard, the process is limited only by your imagination. Once you've decided what kind of pavers you want to incorporate in your patio design, it simply becomes a matter of installing everything step-by-step.

  1. First things first, you want to identify the area that you'd like to use for the patio and then marking an outline for the bricks themselves.

  2. Excavate the space eight inches, which you'll then fill with four inches of gravel, one inch of sand and three inches leftover for the pavers. Use a tamper to make the space nice and flat. Once you've smoothed everything over, try not to walk on it.

  3. Starting at one end, start placing the paver patio designs how you like. You can use the basket-weave pattern to give the pavers a visual texture or use different size paver bricks to add some creativity to the look. If you find yourself with irregular spacing, keep a chisel handy to help.

  4. Once your bricks are in place, you'll want to wrap plastic brick edging around them to secure the bricks in place. Secure the edging in place with spikes and make sure its flush against the paver bricks.

  5. Finally, spread sand over the patio and push the grains into the gaps to eliminate any spacing. Soak with water and then repeat until there's no space left between pavers.
